Go Figure - Community

Go Figure is a $10 figure drawing group for adults 18 and over, meeting at the Fruit, 305 S Dillard, Durham, NC 27701, on December 7, 2026. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and drawing runs from 7 to 9 p.m. It suits people trying figure drawing for the first time, people returning after a break, and people who mainly want to meet local creatives.

The group was founded to build community and make figure drawing accessible. It is not a class, and the organiser describes it as a safe, supportive space to try something new. Street parking is available around the venue, but allow time to find a space and walk over. Attendees bring their own art supplies; the organiser suggests Artpost on Iredell St and says to mention that Nick sent you from Go Figure. Questions can go to nick@artofnickdahlstrom.

Rules for patrons

• Mature audiences only; attendees must be 18 or over.
• No photography of the model or the space while the event is under way.
• Be respectful to the other artists, the host and the model. Anyone found disrespectful by them will be asked to leave without a refund, and the host and model will reconsider future invitations.
• Use correct pronouns, and ask if you are unsure.
• No romantic advances, and no aggressive actions or remarks.
• Bring any drawing supplies you like, but nothing messy. Anything that splashes, squirts or squishes is prohibited. The event takes place in a gallery with other people's work on the walls, and anyone who defaces a piece must compensate the artist.

Guidelines and tips

• Bring something to draw with and something to draw on.
• A easily transportable easel is recommended if you have one.
• The sessions follow the method in Nicolaides' "The Natural Way to Draw," which the organiser credits for the most growth in his own drawing. Reading it is recommended for those who want to advance but is not required.

This is a new and evolving event, and the organiser welcomes feedback.
